Pressing Matters: Printmaking Exhibition

Printmaking students stencil the show's title, Pressing Matters, onto the gallery wall.
The ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Printmaking Studio invites you to "Pressing Matters", an exhibition showcasing the work of student printmakers. Featuring a diverse range of print techniques and concepts, this show highlights the power of print—both as a process of physical pressure and as a means of exploring urgent ideas.
Printmaking has long been a democratic medium, designed for sharing, circulating, and connecting people across time and place. The works in Pressing Matters reflect this tradition, offering deeply considered investigations into identity, place, memory, and transformation. Each print carries the artist’s mark while embracing the unique surprises that arise in the act of making.
There will be a closing reception on April 9th from 4:30pm–7:00pm to offer extended gallery hours and a chance to meet and greet the artists who have created the amazing work in Pressing Matters. All UAF Art exhibitions are free and open to the public.

What is Printmaking?
Printmaking is an artistic process based on the principle of transferring images from a matrix (such as a carved block, etched plate, or stencil) onto another surface, usually paper. Techniques range from traditional methods like woodcut and intaglio to modern approaches including screen printing and monotype. What unites them all is the act of transformation—of pressure, layering, and repetition—to create artworks that are both expressive and reproducible.
