BIO
Shivani Mathur Bhagat is a research assistant professor at ACEP. Her research interests lie in energy policy and economics, with a focus on renewable energy deployment, energy affordability and energy justice issues.
Bhagat holds a doctoral degree in energy economics from the Colorado School of Mines. Her doctoral dissertation delved into researching questions at the crossroads of energy markets and labor economics. She earned her master’s degree in public policy from Oregon State University and her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Pune University.
Having served as a U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Energy Innovator Fellow (now called a Clean Energy Innovator Fellow) with the Colorado Public Utility Commission, Bhagat focused on energy equity, distribution system planning and resource planning for the state of Colorado. Prior to this, she worked on state and local energy policy research at the . Preceding her time in the United States, Bhagat worked with a nonprofit on renewable energy project development in Indian villages.
Bhagat is also an adjunct instructor at University of ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥ Southeast for principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics. Currently residing in Ketchikan, ÀÖ»¢Ö±²¥, Shivani is a parent to a lively 2.5-year-old, finding joy in outdoor family activities. In addition, they host a weekly radio show at the local radio station, featuring music from India.
